Vladim’s world | Crown venessa June 4, 2015 The world of vladim As we are continuously on the lookout for great photography inspiration as well meaningful expression through the lens, our team got acquainted with a gem of Montreal’s photographic scene. Vladim D. Vilain raised the bar as he presents to us his series “Crown” featuring the lovely muse Tania to express a certain lack in photography from our city. “ By meeting her, I noticed that she is a remarkably confident woman, she feels beautiful in her body.” Tania was just right for his vision as she embodies the confidence and power that Vladim was looking for. He entitled his series referencing the beloved Jean-Michel Basquiat, a great source of inspiration of his, who would create black protagonists for his paintings due to the lack of the demonstration of black beauty in contemporary art pieces. “Crown” also understates the engrained ancestral royalty within the person of color. Hence, the subject is on a balcony, on a higher view of the city sipping on wine in a comfortable and luxurious state as she ‘slays’ in her most purest and natural form –nude. Vladim told us about how the editing process was far from being burdensome. He worked on the photos as soon as he got home the same day –something that he rarely does. Tania’s skin texture and body shape was purposely not worked on in order to maintain the most natural and genuine feel to the images. Besides, she is simply stunning, editing her skin texture to a plastic like look would be shameful and defeat the purpose of the message Vladim wants us to reflect upon. We definitely fell in love with this set as soon as we saw it. We admire its boldness and the deeper macrocosmic message that these images entangle. Here are our favorite shots after the jump, enjoy.
